Nothing, teenage boys like nothing. They don’t want to go anywhere or do anything…with mom, anyway. My flash of success was a trip to IKEA. Boys were amazed by the vast selection of “stuff” arranged in a Disneyesque setting. They happily tested and selected a futon, and were thrilled (could tell by half smiles on their faces as they grunted) to find a living palm tree for their bathroom. Pushing our lunches around on a rolling cart was reasonably entertaining, too. And then, as quickly as toddlers might be, minus meltdowns, they were ready to go. I’ll suggest this activity again in a year or so. By then, they’ll have killed the palm tree and will be craving the meatballs.
